Thoughtfully integrated care, with the time and continuity to understand your story.

During perimenopause and menopause, shifting estrogen can influence mood, anxiety, sleep, attention, and memory. This is where brain science, women's mental health, and your history align.

Dr. Alexis Anderson, California psychiatrist for women in midlife

Dr. Alexis Anderson

For nearly twenty years, I've helped women navigate some of life's most challenging emotional and psychological transitions. My work is grounded in curiosity, careful listening, and the belief that meaningful psychiatric care begins with understanding.

I know perimenopause personally. I'm 53, raising two teenage daughters, and navigating it myself, including nights of insomnia that taught me firsthand how much a hormonal shift can quietly reshape a life. This experience doesn't just inform my empathy. It shapes how closely I listen.

I value long-term therapeutic relationships and helping women make sense of experiences that often feel confusing, disconnected, or unlike themselves. There is nothing more rewarding than hearing, "I finally understand what's happening," and watching a woman begin to feel like herself again.

I completed residency training in Adult Psychiatry at Yale University and fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. Since 2008, I've been in private practice and provide concierge psychiatry for midlife women throughout California, with a focus on the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as Los Angeles, San Diego, and Santa Barbara.

my approach

integrative care

Psychotherapy, thoughtful prescribing of psychiatric medications, and lifestyle strategies are integrated into one ongoing therapeutic relationship — always considered alongside your hormonal picture, in close collaboration with your OB/GYN or menopause specialist. Rather than fragmented care across multiple disconnected specialists, you'll have one physician who understands the whole picture and thoughtfully weaves each aspect of your care together.

This integrated approach allows every decision to be informed by your biology, your history, and your life—not just today's symptoms.

psychotherapy

Every appointment includes psychotherapy. I combine psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps women understand how past experiences and unconscious influences shape their emotions, relationships, and self-worth, addressing issues like perfectionism, shame, and life transitions. CBT provides practical tools to challenge negative thought patterns, manage anxiety, depression, ADHD, and stress, and develop healthier coping strategies.

concierge practice

By intentionally limiting the size of my practice, I'm able to provide the kind of care that is increasingly difficult to find in modern medicine: 50-minute appointments, flexible scheduling, direct communication between visits when needed, and the continuity of a long-term therapeutic relationship. Because understanding grows over time, so does our ability to make thoughtful decisions together.

Care is provided through a monthly concierge fee rather than a traditional fee-for-service model.
